Port-au-Prince et sa douce nuit
In a bedroom in Port-au-Prince, by candlelight, a couple trembles, loves, weeps, reminisces and is torn apart in pace with a city plagued by violence. Zily wants to leave with Ferah, but Ferah, who works in the city hospital, cannot bring himself to leave his island. How can people love each other in a city that is falling apart? How can they love their city when they are forced to consider fleeing it?
Winner of the 2022 RFI Théâtre award, the play by Haitian writer Gaëlle Bien-Aimé is at once poetic, sensual, funny, serious and deeply thoughtful. Partly autobiographical, it touches on the hum of the city, the rustling of the bedroom, the echoes of Creole and what love is. A true ode to Port-au-Prince.
