20th Anniversary of Mushfiq Arts Company Inc School of Music and Visual Arts

Presented by Mushfiq Arts

This concert is presented in Farsi, Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi.

This 20th Anniversary Concert will be more than a concert. It will be an expression of an awakened heart. You will be mesmerized by an array of soulful music.

Ustad Mushfiq Hashimi was blessed to study with many legendary musicians. He is the disciple of Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty of the Patiala Gharana. His first Guru was Pandit Rubin Chatterjee and to date, he still receives teachings from him. He had the honour to study Raag Analysis for several years with Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. Another great blessing was studying vocal with Pandit Biresh Roy and his son, Kaustav Roy. On tabla, he was graced with the guidance from Ustad Faiyaz Khan Saheb. He studied with Ustad Mashkor Ali Khaun, the torch bearer of the Kirana Gharana. May all of their blessings and teachings be felt at this celebration concert. Mushfiq is excited and honoured to be releasing some of his new compositions at this concert.

A great maestro, Sri Ashok Dutta from Kolkata, India, will accompany the ensemble on tabla. There will be classical dance, solo tabla performance and an art exhibition showcasing Mushfiq’s visual art pieces as well as his calligraphy art. Mushfiq is a seventh generation calligrapher and is gifted with the ability to create calligraphy art in twelve different fonts. This milestone marks two decades of a musical journey, of performing, teaching, and living in the embrace of the arts in Ottawa. It has been a path illuminated by the notes of tradition, the colours of creativity, and the collective heartbeat of our community.

Ustad has had the privilege of nurturing the seeds of creativity, of passing on the wisdom of the Patiala Gharana, and of witnessing the blossoming of countless artists. He is honoured to walk this path, guided by the footsteps of legendary Maestro’s, while keeping the flame of tradition burning bright.

Art and music are the tools that can bring peace, empathy, and hope back to the world. On a final note, with much gratitude, we give thanks for all your love and support which makes this journey possible and we look forward to seeing you at the concert.
