Unlocking the magic of drawing and watercolour, we will enjoy drawing and painting places, people and things. The course will focus on sound techniques with trusted drawing methods and straightforward watercolour methods explained, demonstrated and applied. Special attention will be given to individual progression and group encouragement, with individual coaching being provided based on students' needs and goals. Each session concentrates on a different reference subject for inspiration. Absolute beginners are welcome as are those taking a refresher in drawing and watercolour methods. (Two live models).

Join us to learn how to make 4 traditional books using centuries old techniques. Set your creativity free to create tunnel, flag and folding books (6 in total) that tell a story using images, photos or drawings. Using paste, create decorative paste papers for your book covers and venture into the world of suminagashi – a Japanese paper marbeling technique for your text blocks. Learn box making techniques to create protective sleeves for your books and gift boxes.

Art health
Traditional and alternative medicine is increasingly recognizing the health benefits of engaging in creative activity. This course is designed for those who are seeking a gentle approach to artmaking in a relaxed environment. Mandala making, intuitive painting, Zen drawing and more will be explored. These are contemplative and meditative exercises with an emphasis on the calming aspect of art making rather than the technical. Come to relax and to de stress. ST OSA oil and acrylic painting adv
A course for artists with a basic knowledge of painting who would like to either get back into it, or move on up from the beginner stage with their work. Using photographs as our prime source of inspiration, the class is intended to create painterly renditions of these photos – not slavishly copy them. We will explore choosing a photo and how to compose a painting from that photo. There will be classroom demonstrations – in oil, with the photo/painting/sketch provided by the teacher. Time will be divided between following along on these class projects and working from your own source materials. Come have fun and learn at the same time!

Expressive Portraits | Intro/Inter (B)

Expressive potraits
The course will explore the joy of creating free and vital portraits in acrylic, oil and watercolour. The instructor's approach balances control and technique with immediacy and spontaneity and shows how these can be woven together to capture personality as well as likeness. There will be a focus on observation and technique along with the exploration of the portrait as a means of expression. Individual coaching will be provided, based on each student’s needs and goals, with students welcome to pursue the medium of their choice. Designed for first-time users of Adobe Photoshop, this introductory course will cover the foundations of digital image editing. Through project based exercises students will learn the tools and techniques used to manipulate and edit images. Visual effects using layers and a variety of tools will teach the principles of Photoshop and digital art making. Each exercise will develop skills while inspiring students to edit and create their own digital pieces outside of the classroom! Adobe Photoshop CS4 is used in this course.

Wheel Level 1 - in-depth

Wheel level 1
This course is an in-depth introductory wheel course. Class duration 2.5 hours for 8 consecutive weeks.  The student will cover the basic techniques for the beginner. You will first learn the art of centering the clay which will allow you make different pot shapes. Trimming a foot onto a pot and surface decoration is covered. Upwards of 6-8 pieces can be made during the course. Some materials included.
