Teen Acting and Performance

SAC - OYP - Intermediate Musical
*This class is three terms (September to June).

Build on acting skills with a more advanced study of improvisation and monologues. Students will work on and develop movement, voice, blocking, script work and other stage business, some may want to design their own costumes, set and props, and program cover. The audience will enjoy their stage production in the Spring Student Showcase.

Singing, dancing and acting; Triple Threat students will work together from September to June in three-terms. Students will work on voice and movement with expert instruction. Previous musical experience is an asset but enthusiasm, commitment and team spirit are the only prerequisites for this 2-hour class. The audience will enjoy their stage production in the Spring Student Showcase.

Improvisation is fun, and vital to theatre study, it is interactive with audience participation! Play creation without a playwright! Think fast! On your feet! Gain and instill confidence! Comedy is lively and entertaining, fast thinking and timing as well as learning to relate to your audience. Circus is full of thrill and freedom! Juggle, tumble and clown! Develop character and integrate into an always moving story. No experience necessary, just an active imagination and a sense of adventure. Collective developed performance for the Spring Student Showcase.

On-Camera – Episodic Web Series

SAC - OYP - On Camera Beginners
*This class is three terms. (September-June)*

Acting for the camera, students will learn and practice the basics of filmmaking and acting. This class provides students with an opportunity for artistic expression as together, with their teacher, they create an episodic WEB SERIES to be aired every two weeks. Students may visit other OST classes to tape and create an OST commercial for social media and the OST website. The audience will enjoy their production in the Spring Student Showcase.

Be ready for your High School Shakespeare study! With an emphasis on play, physicality, character and emotion, be prepared to shake up your Shakespeare! Shakespeare makes for exciting and dynamic theatre. GHOSTS! In the first term, meet Shakepeare’s ghosts and magical characters! Find costumes and present them at end of term. Funny! Shakespeare has many COMEDIC scenes of mistaken identity and hilarious adventures! Dress it up and present at term end. Battles and Death scenes are an actor’s dream! The third term will incorporate the first two terms as students learn how to fight and die on stage! The audience will enjoy their stage production in the Spring Student Showcase.

Tour to Young Audiences

SAC - OYP - TOUR Young Audiences
*This class is three terms. (September-June)* What is acting all about? Sharing! This class builds a show then shares it with audiences of all ages. Learn about the aspects of touring: putting up/striking sets, caring for props and costumes, dealing with challenges of varying performance spaces. The class will tour up to five venues and may require students to miss 2-3 days of school. This exploration of theatre and acting will lead to from one to four performances at Ottawa primary schools, The Ottawa Children’s Festival as well as a performance in the OST Spring Student Showcase.

Art Foundation - Drawing & Painting Emphasis

Whether you are interested in pursuing architecture, fashion, animation or fine arts you will need to have a strong drawing and painting foundation. This course is designed for the serious art student to prepare and complement your current or future art study. Lessons focus on how to create convincing form, accurate proportion, and pleasing compositions. Still life and the human figure will be covered in this course, as well as lessons to encourage and unlock your creativity. Students are asked to bring their own sketchbooks each class. Cartooning, Comics, and Animation: Level II

This course is recommended for students who have taken level I. Students will get a refresher in drawing and animation techniques as well as being challenged to complete an 11-second piece of digital animation. New students are also welcome to join as long as they have some experience working with drawing or animation programs. This course will be offered in the Ottawa School of Art computer lab as well as in a traditional art studio. (1 costumed model included)

Teen Portfolio Development

This course will focus on developing students’ observational skills while focusing on tone, form, proportion, likeness, depth, composition, and texture. Special attention will be given to portraiture, life drawing, and still life. Students will work from a model in preparation for the Canterbury visual arts interview. Through a variety of painting, drawing, mixed media, and sculpture projects, students will refine their skills and develop a substantial body of work. This course will cover all of the requirements for the Canterbury visual arts portfolio. Also available to teens wanting to attend De la Salle or pursuing their own interest in art. This course is open to new and returning students. Students are asked to bring their own sketchbooks each class. (Tuition includes one draped model.)

This course is aimed at students who have completed Level 1 and wish to advance, but still require more guidance from the instructor for the full 2 1/2 hour class. The class will progress towards more advanced forms including covered forms, bowls, plates, sets, teapots and closed-in forms. Some materials included. Prerequisite: Be able to consistently centre and throw a cylinder as high as it is wide.

Emoji Box Workshop

Come and create your very own hand built pottery Emoji Box!

Each participant will design 1 emoji box using clay slabs during this 1.5 hour workshop. The participant will complete the box by painting it with under-glaze. Our technicians will take care of firing your emoji box in our kilns. The boxes will be ready 2 weeks after the workshop for you to pick up.
