Michipichou, and Other Fantastic Stories from Canadian Art

OSA - S17SC6BA Michipichou
Let’s celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday by learning stories from Canada’s most famous artists. We will create a colourful plaster sculpture of Michipichou (water panther) inspired by the work of Norval Morrisseau. Stories from Canada’s North will inspire us to make fantastic prints like our world famous Inuit printmakers. Let’s learn about prairies and artist Joe Fafard, and create with clay. The mystery of Tom Thomson, and Group of Seven will also be explored in watercolour and pencil.

Fashion Design & The Art of Sewing

OSA - S17ST3 Fashion Sewing
This course will introduce the students to the world of sewing by showing various techniques of construction seams and finishing seams. The students will also learn how to sew in a controlled manner and then how to follow and understand a commercial pattern. In this class the students will construct a lovely handbag, which will also develop their sense of creativity and artistic flair all the while applying some of the basic techniques of sewing. The goal of this class is to initiate the students to the sewing trade and develop their feeling of accomplishment and fulfillment as well as cultivating their artistic talent and sewing skills. This course is open to new students as well as returners. Please bring your own sewing machine.

Also explore how drawing and photography can work together to create original and powerful artwork. This course is an introduction to digital photography, with some drawing exercises (both digital and pencil drawings), where you will learn how to use your digital SLR, and edit photos using Lightroom.
