An introduction to acting for the camera. Students will learn and practice the basics of filmmaking and acting. This class provides students with an opportunity for artistic expression. Students together with their teacher will create, film and learn about editing their own work. Students may visit other OYPTS classes to tape and create an OYPTS commercial for social media and the OYPTS website. The audience will enjoy their stage production in the Spring Student Showcase.

A more advanced approach to acting for the stage vs. acting for film. Students will learn and practice the fundamentals of filmmaking and acting. This class provides students with an opportunity for artistic expression. Students together with their teacher will create, film and edit their own work. Students may visit other OYPTS classes to tape and create a commercial for social media and the OYPTS website. The audience will enjoy their stage production in the OYP Spring Student Showcase.

Be ready for your High School Shakespeare study! With an emphasis on play, physicality, character and emotion, be prepared to shake up your Shakespeare! The plays of Shakespeare are too often taught in the classroom as difficult and obscure sacred texts. The aim of this course is to show students that his plays make for exciting and dynamic theatre. Explore aspects of touring: putting up/striking sets, caring for props and costumes, dealing with challenges of varying performance spaces. The class will tour up to five venues and will require students to miss 2-3 days of school. This exploration of theatre and acting will lead to from one to four performances at Ottawa primary schools as well as a performance in the OYP Spring Student Showcase.

Stage Combat Class with Charles Douglas

OYP - Stage Combat
Do you want to learn how to Stage Fight? Ever wonder how actors stay safe in movies or plays? Most storytelling includes physical conflict. From "Romeo and Juliet" to "Star Wars", the ability to stay safe and to deliver what the fight director needs are huge assets for the actor.

This workshop will start with unarmed stage combat and move to swords and sticks. This class will be taught by fight director and actor Charles Douglas, who has taught, choreographed and performed stage fights. at the regional level as well as having taught combat at the post-secondary and secondary level, for the Neptune Theatre School, and elsewhere. Whether you are interested in pursuing architecture, fashion, animation or fine arts you will need to be able to have a strong drawing and painting foundation. This course is designed for the serious art student to prepare and complement your current or future art study. Lessons focus on how to create convincing form, accurate proportion, and pleasing compositions. Still life and the human figure will be covered in this course, as well as lessons to encourage and unlock your creativity. (4 draped models included)

Teen Portfolio Development (English)

This course will focus on developing students’ observational skills while focusing on tone, form, proportion, likeness, depth, composition and texture. Special attention will be given to portraiture, life drawing and still life. Students will work from a model in preparation for the Canterbury visual arts interview. Through a variety of painting, drawing, mixed media and sculpture projects, students will refine their skills and develop a substantial body of work. This course will cover all of the requirements for the Canterbury visual arts portfolio. Also available to teens wanting to attend De la Salle or pursuing their own interest in art. Introduction to Wheel and Handbuilding

 
Introduction to wheel and handbuilding is a great place to start for the beginner. It covers several pottery techniques including working on the potter's wheel and hand building using coils, slab and pinch methods of building. It also covers glaze and slip decorating. One Night on the Wheel

Have you wanted to try making pottery on the wheel? Here is your opportunity to enjoy one evening discovering the art of throwing clay. The student will cover the basic techniques for the beginner. You will first learn the art of centering the clay which will allow you make different pot shapes. Slab Vase for tulips

GPS - Tulip Vase
Come and create your own uniquely modern slab vase! During this 2.5 hour workshop you will learn the essential hand building techniques for this daring shape. You will learn how to make slabs, construct the vase and create the appliqués. Once your vase is completed it will be bisque fired, glazed and fired again ready for you to pick up 2 weeks after the workshop date.
