Contemporary Dance

Contemporary dance workshop directed by Tara Luz Danse.

Arts à la Carte - Dance
Exploration, improvisation, creation, body awareness, reflection

Contemporary Dance: Students are invited to move along with a Tara Luz Danse dancer - accompanied by a musician - to explore, through games, the concepts of improvised movement that guide the company’s creation process: the spontaneous creation of movements, the imitation and development of movements and listening to the environment and the group. At the end of the workshop, students are asked to share their experience with the group.

Pottery 1

Arts à la Carte - Pottery
Decorative box: Creating and Presenting, Exploring Forms and Cultural Contexts

Using slabs, children will look at ways of creating symmetrical/asymmetrical three dimensional objects focusing on the negative spaces, volume and shadows created by these shapes (ex: cube vs star shape) They will also experiment with textures.

Creative Movement: Creating and Presenting, Reflecting, Responding, and Analyzing

Creative Movement aims to teach students how to be aware of the space around their body and how to move through it. It is good for all ages and all physical abilities. It is expressing creativity with movement that might be inspired by mask, or character, costume, art, music, story or poetry. There is no right or wrong.

Portrait Drawing-An Exploration into the Self-Portrait : Creating and Presenting

This session will teach the fundamentals of proportions and line in drawing a face. Students will be introduced to working with different hardness of pencils, shading and using conté. Students will then create a life size self-portrait using small hand held mirrors.

Mandalas - Balance and Colour with Sand: Reflecting, Responding, and Analyzing

This unique session will explore the importance of line, pattern making and colour in art and design. The students will look at the colour value and complementary colours. They will work in pencil and pastel, and then do a mandala using coloured sand.

Arts à la Carte - Visual Arts
Landscape Painting and Canada’s Group of Seven : Exploring Forms and Cultural Contexts

This session will introduce the Group of Seven and their importance in Canadian Art History. Looking at the works, the students will learn about the structure and balance of a landscape painting, foreground, background and horizon line and basic principals of perspective. How colours influence the mood of a painting will also be discussed. The students will create their own landscape using acrylics on a canvas board.
