“I’d like to see and hear it again. For fun. To laugh and cry. Once more, if I might.” Through the narrator’s words, this is the request that playwright Michel Tremblay puts forth. To see and hear his mother, Nana, once again, who served as his first and inexhaustible source of inspiration. This is how mother and son are reunited, through five scenes, over the years, obviously very close, with gruff yet undying affection. From unbridled laughter to arguments, with her love of life, literature and theatre, get to know the one and only Nana, the loving mother, with her talent for creating drama, who has become a master of exaggeration and has a passion for novels and teleplays.

In this mostly autobiographical play, written thirty years after Les Belles-Soeurs, we meet the playwright’s mother, a “very simple lady” who is anything but ordinary and who was the inspiration for several female characters in Tremblay’s masterful body of work. Encore une fois, si vous permettez also documents a relationship that was cut short. It is a moving tribute to the woman who never got to see her little one “cross over to the other side and become an artist” and who feared that he wouldn’t find his way in life, that he would never “fit in” because she might have let him dream too freely…

The play takes place in Montréal between 1952 and 1962.
