Summer Series - Galitcha

Presented by: Shenkman Arts Centre Presents in partnership with the Heart of Orléans BIA

Thursday, August 22 at 12:30 pm

Join us for a weekly dose of fun at our summer lunchtime series. These free concerts will take place at 12:30 pm every Thursday in July and August.

Galitcha is a visionary ensemble that performs original compositions based on Indian folk music, combined with influences from jazz, world and North American folk. A Galitcha show can be described as love songs and rhythms that will make the crowd dance, a contagious "joie de vivre". The word "galitcha" means "tapestry" and Galitcha is most certainly that. They will bring the audience on a superb musical journey full of emotions. Alternating between French and English, the performers explain the meaning of songs sung in the Punjabi, Urdu and Hindi languages. In addition, participants explore the basics of Bhangra (folk dance), Dhandia (stick dance) and the popular Bollywood dances.

Summer Series additional shows:

July 4 - Sing Song Party Time with Derek McKinley, children's music
July 11 - Caribbean Fit Fete, Caribbean dance
July 18 - Oto-Wa Taiko, Japanese drumming
July 25 - Moov Ottawa, hip-hop dance
August 1 - Erika McCulloch, Belly dance
August 8 - Aboriginal Experiences, Pow Wow dance
August 15 - Louis Mercier, French Canadian folklore

The performances will be outside the Centre in the Agora (or in the upper lobby if there is rain) and will present a wonderfully diverse selection of local artists and performers.
