Summer Series - Louis Mercier

Presented by: Shenkman Arts Centre Presents in partnership with the Heart of Orléans BIA

Thursday, August 15 at 12:30 pm

Join us for a weekly dose of fun at our summer lunchtime series. These free concerts will take place at 12:30 pm every Thursday in July and August.

Louis Mercier is an ambassador of traditional French-Canadian music. Dressed as a Habitant-Voyageur, he has offered over 3000 performances across Canada since 1984. Louis comes from Maniwaki, Québec, a town 100 miles north of Ottawa. Louis’ family passed their traditions down to him throughout his childhood, from and ancestral Québecois dances and music (including traditional percussion such as the bones, wash boards, spoons and the comb). His passion for his culture led to life-long study of folkloric traditions; he also teaches High School Mathematics. With energy and enthusiasm, Louis teaches us about our past, but also about how it is alive in the present, and how it will shape our future.
